Cancel Your Sensible Plans. Do Improv Instead.
I started improv because the pottery class was full.
In 2014 I moved to Brighton.
I was going to do something wholesome and grounded.
Something sensible.
Like pottery.
The class was full.
So I tried improv instead.
And I can honestly say it has done more for me than anything else I’ve ever learned.
Not just for immersive acting.
Not just for performance.
But for awareness.
Acceptance.
Flow.
Confidence.
Being more me.
Improv started as a hobby.
It became a mindset.
What Actually Happens in an Improv Class?
You walk in slightly nervous.
You leave laughing.
Somewhere in between:
You stop overthinking.
You say the thing before your brain can sabotage it.
You discover you are far more creative than you thought.
You meet a room full of genuinely lovely humans (improv attracts lovely sorts).
And something subtle shifts.
You realise you don’t need to be perfect.
You just need to say yes.
The Obvious Benefits
Confidence
Creativity
An evening out of your head
A proper laugh on a Monday
The Unexpected Ones
Inclusivity
Awareness (of yourself and others)
Flow state
Positive energy
Actually being present in a world that constantly pulls you away
People of all ages come away with a new sense of self
And no — you don’t need to be funny.
You don’t need experience.
You don’t need to be “a performer.”
You just need curiosity.
The 12 Week Beginner Course
I’ll be teaching the Level 1A Beginner Course on Monday evenings from April 13th.
It runs for 12 weeks (and you can take it in two halves if that feels easier).
My friend Nathan Pope will be teaching the Wednesday beginner course too.
If you’ve been looking for something that:
Gets you out of your routine
Expands your confidence
Connects you with playful, open-hearted people
And gives you permission to be gloriously imperfect
This is it.
